Lotus Healing Seva Group goes young!

15th December 2008 was a special day in the history of the Seva Group, for a brand new chapter was opened …. The Lotus Healing Seva YOUTH Group, comprising of under 16’s Reiki Healers!

Although unofficially 4 of them had met earlier on Harleen’s birthday to distribute food to the poor at the Jalaram Temple, the group was officially started on 15th December, with a full contingent of 6 Reiki healers.

And what does the Youth Group do?

Simple: They do what the adult group does and in a way, even more!
Like the senior group, once a week they heal requests, people in hospitals, people with chronic and or serious ailments, and they heal the earth and global issues. They will also take part in our annual Reiki camps.

They are:
Harleen Gokaldas, (13 years) a level 3A Reiki healer, is in charge of this beautiful group:
Karishma Kassam, (13 years) Reiki level 3A
Sonali Shah (13 years) Reiki level 3A
Krishna Kanji (13 years) Reiki level 3A
Krupali Patel (14 years) Reiki Level 2
Anoushka Kassam (10 years) Reiki level 2

We are very proud of these young people and the spirit with which they have come together to serve society!

Youth Member Reiki Experiences

The members of the Lotus Healing Seva Youth Group were asked to carry out a Reiki Project. They had to chooses a person, animal or plant, preferably with a problem, send Reiki to them, and note the difference. Here are their experiences:

Reiki Project: My Bamboo Plant

For the project given, I chose my bamboo plant because I saw that it was drying up and that its leaves and stems were turning yellowish – brown. Since I did not want the bamboo to die, I started giving it healing. I sent healing to it everyday in the morning and saw that the yellow leaves were turning green, and soon so did the stems.

After a while, I stopped sending healing to see if it could cope, however, it just went worse: the leaves turned dry and brown, and the stems turned brown as well. After seeing that, I resumed my healing again and it has started to improve.

Reiki Experience

I have 2 dogs, and both of them were fighting. One scratched the other one in between the two eyes and blood started coming out.

I saw what happened. So I rushed to give him Reiki where it was bleeding. I put both my hands over it.

After a while the blood stopped and my dog was fine.after that he now follows me everywhere and wants me to give him Reiki all the time.

My Reiki Project

At our last reiki meeting, Kamal aunty asked us to do this project. She asked us to choose an object or a person and send it reiki everyday and observe the changes for about a month.
I chose a person. I chose someone that I felt needed a lot of reiki because of all the work she did. This person is my house-help, Hellen. She has been with us for over 13 years.

When we were given this project, we had some guests living at home. This meant that Hellen had to put an extra effort in her daily work so that the guests were comfortable. She got tired quickly and struggled to work for the last few hours.

I sent healing to Hellen daily, just before I woke up and just before I went to sleep. I sent reiki with my eyes closed just imagining her working peacefully and well.

It took me a while to notice the changes in her work. When I did notice I saw that she had quickened the pace of her work and she lasted for more hours of the day. I was amazed at the sudden change in her work and I believe that this was because of the reiki that I had been sending her for the past days.

My Reiki Project

Mrs. Kamal Tolia asked us as the LHSYG (Lotus Healing Seva Youth Group) to choose an object or a person to send reiki to regularly for a while to notice the changes. We had to choose anything that we thought that needed help.

I chose my mum because at that time my mum had just had her surgery done after some guests left our house. She was in a lot of pain and that was when I thought of sending her reiki daily. My mum, Bhavna Kassam, is always running around doing our errands and that was why I felt that she needed the reiki more than anyone else.

My mum would often come home and go upstairs to lie down and would very often fall asleep for about an hour because of the fatigue in her body. I felt that because of all the things she did for us and for everyone else, she needed it a lot. She seemed very tired in the evenings at dinner.

Everyday before I went to sleep, I closed my eyes and sent reiki to my mum imagining her to be very happy and peaceful. I tried whenever I could to send my mum reiki for the day.

After a while I saw that she was much calmer and that she got tired less often and that when she came home from work, she was on her laptop. She got a lot more work done than she used to. I also seemed to notice that she complained less about her scars and the pain than she used to which meant that the pain had subsided.

Reiki Project

I chose my brother(Shiv Sumaria) to send Reiki. He was getting very angry, and physically hitting me and my mum, both of us started fighting more then we used to.

I sent healings at night. The result is that he is more calmer these days, does not fight and get angry alot but sometimes i dont send healing and the next day he is not in a good mood most of the time and if i send healing again he is much better, and he is also much more kinder to everyone in and out of the house.

Reiki Project: Healing Chips, my Hamster

I woke up in the morning and I went to feed my hamster. I saw that he was feeling sick. I called my mum and asked her if we could take him to the vet. The vet said he had a stomach infection and gave me some medicine to put in his water. But I did not give him the medicine. Instead I gave him Reiki day and night, and in two days he was alright.

Trip to the Hope House Babies Home

The highlight during the year so far, for the Lotus Healing Seva Youth Group, was their trip to a babies orphanage. Here is what they have to say.

Our experience at the babies home

On Saturday 28th February, the Lotus Healing Seva Youth Group (LHSYG) went to the Hope House Babies Home.

Our main purpose for going there was to heal the babies and keep them happy by playing with them. As soon as we reached, there were a few children who felt very happy on seeing us. There were about 20 children; many were very young, from 3 months to 3 years old, while some were about 7 or 8.

Seeing the children happy made me happy, and they were, clearly, very excited. When we reached, we first saw the rooms in which the children were kept. We played with them for a while and then gave them (most of them received hands-on healing from us) reiki. None of us knew what problems the children were facing, so it was a bit hard to figure out where to place our hands. Our problem was solved when Kamal aunty told us that we could send healing to the heart.

I deeply enjoyed this experience, because it was something new, something which I had never thought of doing. I found it slightly unusual because whenever I go to the hospitals to send healing to older people, with many problems, whereas, these babies that I saw were perfectly healthy and did not look ill at all. I wish that we could do these kind of things over and over again, so that, I personally, wouldn’t feel odd healing elders who keep staring at you!!!

The Trip to the Babies Home

My first visit to a baby’s home was very exciting. The LHSYG (Lotus Healing Seva Youth Group) visited the Hope House Babies home where we donated a number of things including toys for the babies.

I enjoyed the visit thoroughly even though I was one of the young ones and I couldn’t carry any of the babies properly. The baby that I chose was very cute and chubby. He loved it when someone carried him and really cried when I put him down.
When my mum, Bhavna Kassam, brought the toys inside the hope house, I chose a big teddy for my baby. We all gave reiki to our assigned babies and when I gave reiki to mine a sudden smile appeared on his face and that made me feel so good.
When I gave my baby the teddy bear he smiled at me and began to play with it. It seemed he loved it. I really felt that we should have stayed longer but we had already finished giving reiki and were just playing with the babies. I hope the babies at the hope House benefited from our reiki.

My Experencies at the Hope House Babies Home

I was looking forward to going to the babies home since i first heard that we will be going, i could barely wait to get there. When we finally got there, I saw so many cute babies. It was nice to see so many babies. Then every member sent healing to the babies. We tried to send healing to all the babies in the Home, the older members sent healing to the helper/keepers in the babies home. It was so much fun playing with the babies, none of us wanted it to end.

The Visit to the Hope House Babies Home

My first visit to a baby’s home was to the Hope House Babies Home. It was really exciting. I loved the babies and loved playing with them. I really appreciate Punita aunty for organize this visit for the LHSYG (Lotus Healing Seva Youth Group).

When we entered the Hope House, almost all the babies had finished eating their lunch and the very small ones had already been put to sleep… for their afternoon nap. We first went and visited all the rooms and all the babies and gave reiki to all of them from the very tiny ones to the older ones.

We also chose one of the few that were awake and who seemed to want to play with us. Of the 5 youth members who were accompanied by Kamal Aunty, my mum, Bhavna Kassam, Monica Aunty and Punita Aunty – each of us chose 1 baby and carried them while giving them hands-on reiki. My baby girl seemed to enjoy that very much. They were all very cute.

My mum then brought in the bag of toys for the babies while Punita aunty brought in the other food stuff and giveaways. The toys were all sizes and I chose a small pink teddy for my baby. I could see that she was delighted. I really wish we could have spent some more time and played a little more with the babies. The “Hope House” also told us that in the mornings all the babies are playing outside in the garden/grass and they also told us that the next time we go there or to any babies home, we should try and make an effort to go in the morning hours. This is when the babies are fresh and alert… and happy to play with strangers.

We played with the babies, talked to them and really enjoyed ourselves.

My experience at the Hope house Babies Home

We went to the babies home at 2 pm. There were many small babies, the oldest being 4 years old. It was very kind of the owner to let us come to see the babies. The bad part was that the children had no parental love, but the good part was they were taken care of and seemed happy. They were active and playing about. I would like to give them all my love and my toys, clothes, snacks, etc.

And here is another Reiki Story which Karishma would like to share with you from her 'Reiki Diary' ...

My Reiki Incident

On the 15th of April 2009 my dad, Hanif Kassam, got Carjacked by three carjackers. We got the news from my mum who was talking to someone on the phone.

The only words she said were “Someone got Carjacked! Who?” and “Hanif?” As soon my sister, Anoushka heard that, she started crying and ran to my mum. My mum did not know how to react and the only thing that I could think of doing was to send reiki to the incident.

At that point I said my symbols and sent reiki. Not to my dad or the carjackers or anyone in particular but to the incident. As soon as I heard my mum talking, I left it open-ended and went to my mum.

In less than 15 minutes, we heard my dad’s horn, he had arrived back home. I really believe that the reiki helped with the incident. I believe it helped my dad in his situation and it helped calm the carjackers minds.

Now days, all I can think of when something like this happens is to send reiki.
